Indeed, some members of the government have come to this meeting with a bad image of the Ivorian youth.
The tone was set by Alain Lobognon, Minister of Youth and Sports who said inappropriate remarks against youth. He said:
“The president said he has a million jobs for young people and there are young people who are waiting for the SMS from the President. I just tell you that the president phone has no more calling credit. The problem in Ivory Coast is that there are too many graduates but you do not have the qualifications and skills. “
Such remarks coming from a minister, which in addition is supposed to be the spokesman of youth, shows that these meetings are a great political farce whose sole purpose is to fool people that the government is concerned about the situation of young Ivorians. The reality is something else. This is the great amateurism prevailing. This is also the case of Interior Minister Hamed Bakayoko, who dealing with thousands of mostly unemployed young, found nothing more than offering an indefinite employment one young participant and make a promise to fund a project equally indefinite for another young person present at this meeting. As if it was a random selection lottery number by two “happy” winners. Other young people will only expect their luck at the next assizes in a year time…
Youth occupies a special place in the construction and development of a nation. It is therefore essential that it be associated in decision making so that its claims should be taken into account. The assizes are not the place to organise music concerts that cost billions, but to provide concrete answers to the ills afflicting the young. The money used for the closing concert of these gathering, could be used to finance loads of projects for tens of thousands of young people.
Everyone knows that the state alone can not provide employment to all young people, including the private sector. It is time that the government is clearly concerned about the youth by setting up project financing fund accessible to all young people. Ivorian youth are smart, they all aspire to a true integration into the socio-economic fabric of Ivory Coast in order to contribute to its development.
Ivorian youth has always been exploited by the Ivorian political power.
