The Ivorian Aurier faces ban for insulting a referee

Paris Saint-Germain’s Ivorian defender Serge Aurier is facing UEFA disciplinary action after he insulted Champions League referee Bjorn Kuipers in a video posted on his Facebook account.

The Côte d’Ivoire international, who has been nursing a thigh injury for the past four weeks, called the Dutch officially a ‘dirty son of a b…h’ following PSG’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last Wednesday, in the return leg of their round of 16 tie in Europe’s foremost club competition.

The French giants qualified on away goals despite being reduced to 10 men after 30 minutes, following a rough challenge from star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Chelsea’s Brazilian midfielder Oscar.

“Disciplinary proceedings have been opened against the Paris Saint-Germain player Serge Aurier, following comments he made on social media after the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg match between Chelsea FC and Paris Saint-Germain played in London on 11 March,” UEFA has announced on Monday.

According to the European governing body’s disciplinary regulations (Art. 15-1d), Aurier, the right-back is facing a “suspension for three competition matches or a specified period for insulting any match official”

Serge Aurier’s case will be dealt on March 19.
